Refuge 980 is the student ministry at Northside Baptist Church in Huntsville, Texas. We serve the students in our church and in our community from grades 7 through 12.
Refuge 980 is designed to be an outlet that teenagers can be involved in to take refuge from the temptations and responsibilities they face daily. We strive to provide an atmosphere that welcomes teenagers and encourages and challenges them in their relationship with Jesus Christ. We want our students to know that the ultimate refuge is the one taken in God’s love. We offer three programs for our students to help them in their relationship with God. We also offer many activities throughout the school year and summer to provide a fun and encouraging opportunity for students to hang out together, grow closer to each other and deepen their relationship with Christ.
For this school year, we're in year one of The Gospel Project. The Gospel Project is a 3 year study through the entire Bible. Sunday morning classes are split by ages. Our Jr. High class is taught by Bob Slie, and our High School class is taught by Nolan Nichols. Sunday mornings we meet at 9:30 AM.
Sunday nights at Refuge 980 are a mix of activities. Mostly, we spend about half our time having a Bible Lesson and discussion and the other half of our time building relationships and unity in our Youth Ministry though recreation.
Wednesday nights at refuge 980 have a flavor of their own. We spend time praising Jesus through song, compete in group and individual challenges and games, and are challenged through a message from our Youth Pastor, Bob Slie. Students love the relaxed atmosphere found on Wednesday nights. The youth building is open before and after our meeting offering students pool, air hockey, foosball, shuffleboard, music and hanging out. We meet on Wednesday's from 6:30 to 7:30 PM.
